Elea GmbH is the leading supplier of Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) systems to the food, beverage and scientific sectors.

This is demonstrated by the commercial adoption of PEF with over 70 Elea systems installed worldwide since 2009.

We design, build and install PEF equipment suitable for a wide range of applications and outputs.

Elea Pulsed Electric Field systems bring positive and dramatic changes to manufacturing. Improving output, reducing energy and labour costs, streamlining supply chain logistics, shortening process times and curtailing retail waste. 

PEF is able to restructure raw materials such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots and cassava which provides new shapes and product opportunities and enhances process optimisation.

Elea PEF improves the extraction rates of juices, sugars, colours and other active substances, it increases yield and dramatically lowers water usage. 

Elea PEF inactivates microorganisms in liquid products such as juices, smoothies and purees which significantly extends shelf life, enabling better production planning. Low temperature processing preserves nutrients, colour and flavor. 

Elea PEF enhances meat processing by cooking loss reduction and an increase on the brine intake.

Main Electroporation related research techniques and equipment


Elea offers a trial batch system capable of treating solids and liquids for scientific and pilot scale applications with up to 10 L treatment volume. 

We offer different treatment chamber sizes up to 10 L treatment volume resulting in high flexibility, changing the treatment parameters such as field strength, specific energy input and sample size. 

Elea Batch System

Additionally we offer you the opportunity to do trials in our continuous liquid PEF system with up to 30 L/h capacity. The results created with our trial systems are easaly scalable.

Elea's SmoothCut system is a belt system for easy implementation in your existing production line. 

It treats potatoes or other (root-)vegetables and also fruits with pulsed electric fields, leading to vast processing and quality improvements. 

Belt systems are the optimal solution for the treatment of tubers, roots, vegetables and fruits. 

Our SmoothCut system is available in a range of four models with different capacities: 

  • SmoothCut One
  • SmoothCut 10
  • SmoothCut 100
  • SmoothCut 1000

Each option is fully customisable to your requirements. Depending on system the SmoothCut offers capacities from 1 - 55 t/h. 

Its features include a quick start-up, small footprint and low energy & water usage.

Elea SmoothCut


Elea's SafeJuice System is intended for innovative processing of liquids and other pumpables like fruit juices, soup, sauce, milk and many more. 

For liquid foods and non-foods the Elea SafeJuice system is available in three versions: 

  • SafeJuice 10
  • SafeJuice 100
  • SafeJuice 1100

Elea's SafeJuice System can handle capacities from 50 L to 10.000 L/h for microbial inactivation, subject to load ratio and process requirements. Hygienic integrated design, CIP & SIP ready. 

Complete control of process parameters and online monitoring dose to comply with all HACCP requirements.

Its modular design is easy to configure and maintain.

Research topics, techniques and equipment not related to Electroporation


At our mother company, the German Institute of Food Technologies, DIL, we have the possibility to analize microbiology (spoilage and pathogens), chemistry (vitamins, antioxidatives) and physics (light and electron microscopy, cutting force).

They also provide testing in several food related pilot halls with cutting edge process technologies (e.g. meat, dairy, chocolate, high pressure processing, extrudation and more).
